Prince Edward Island is known for its oysters, and they are amazing, but it has so much more to offer!
PEI Tips:
The island is quiet large and is mainly farmland, so don’t expect to quickly scoot from one side to the other.
You can get to the island by bridge or by ferry, both have a cost associated with them so I would say it just depends on your timing and destination for which makes more sense.
I really enjoyed PEI, but if you only have one island to visit I would choose Cape Breton Island in nearby Nova Scotia—blog coming soon!
Prince Edward Island National Park:
Cavendish Beach: A very popular area with a nice beach and sand dunes.
Cape Turner/North Rustico Beach: A quieter area of the park. If you have a dog with you the area along Breakwater Road is dog-friendly.
North Rustico is a nice nearby village with a few shops and restaurants.
Frothy Coffee: A solid spot for coffee and tea with outdoor seating.
On the Dock Eatery: A popular restaurant right on the water. Really enjoyed the spot but the service was not great.
Summerside:
Explore the Baywalk Boardwalk! There are several restaurants, bars, and shops along this paved path. This is a nice area to catch sunset from.
Summerside Shipyard: A great restaurant overlooking the water with a large menu. The pickle fries are superb! You can also grab a drink and hang out in their Adirondack chairs outside.
The Knot Beach Bar: A super cute bar on the water with a sand bottom and casual vibes. They also have a small food menu.
Spinnakers Landing: This is another hub of restaurants, bars, and shops to explore.
Deckhouse Pub & Eatery: A restaurant with a nice deck overlooking the water. Solid cocktails.
Charlottetown:
JC's Tiki Bar: A fun spot on the water with a sand bottom and swings. The cocktails are not great, so maybe go for a beer or wine. There are also a couple of restaurants that share the deck.
Founders Food Hall & Market: A cool food hall with a large variety of options.
Pretzel, Pint & Pickle is located inside with a large beer list.
Victoria Row: A cute pedestrians-only street with restaurants to explore.
Heads up parking in this area can be tough as Charlottetown is where most people center their PEI trip.
Victoria by the Sea:
Wander this cute little village! It can be very popular so prepare to hunt for a parking spot, but it is worth exploring.
Landmark Oyster House: A charming restaurant with delicious eats and drinks set in an old house.
Fosters Ice Cream: This shop is located on the back of Richard’s with tasty scoops. You can head to the park across the street to enjoy with a sea view!
Other recommendations:
Raspberry Point Oyster Bar: This spot has fantastic oysters and a few other menu items ordered via counter service. There is a nice deck overlooking the oyster farm, and they do tours as well. I would not say you need to go out of your way to visit, but if you are in the area it is a good spot.
Thunder Cove Beach: A very popular beach with parking filling up all the way down the road. It is known for dramatic red sandstone cliffs, natural sea caves, and unique coastal rock formations.
Knead A Brake Cafe: A coffee shop with wildly good pastries (+ smoothies!) inside of a bike shop.
